Session 1:

Staying Afloat:
Managing Changes in the Workplace and in Your Life.

March 5, 2008

This workshop will provide an introduction to the basics of Considering how change affects us, understanding and managing anxiety, stressors and the stress response.

You will discover the stress continuum and the four areas in which anxiety, tension & stress exists in all of us. You will learn a simple breathing technique latest research demonstrates can be highly effective in managing stress reactions in both our minds and our bodies. We will identify ways you can begin to control how external & internal stressors affect you. We will talk about aspects of personality and behavior that contribute to escalating stress levels and how, with practice, you can learn to manage unwanted & unhealthy responses to the stressors in our work & more generally, in our lives.

There will be an experiential “guided imagery” component wherin your mission, should you decide to accept it, will be to try to “relax for twenty minutes.” What a concept!

Session 2:

Intentions:
Personal Performance, Leadership and Life.

March 18, 2008

Getting it right, getting it done, getting along, and getting appreciation are the four intentions from Dealing with People You Can’t Stand: How to bring out the best in people at their worst by Dr Rick Brinkman and Dr Rick Kirschner, http://www.thericks.com. These intentions are the quadrants created by the foci of passive, aggressive, people, and task and are present in all of our interactions.

When a person does not get their intention met, they move into behaviors that make them difficult associates. Understanding these intentions and learning techniques to meet them, will empower us to empathize, prevent, and redirect behaviors that complicate our relationships. Time will be spent identifying ways we can use this in our own performance, leadership, mentoring, and stress reduction.

Session 3:

Leadership From the Inside Out:
Developing Your Own Leadership Roadmap.

March 26, 2008

This workshop will assist participants in recognizing their own leadership “mind maps” in order to thoughtfully and realistically construct a personal “best leadership practice”.

The way we each perceive the world, ourselves and the people in it, directly influence our actions. Most of us are “unconsciously incompetent” about how our thoughts, emotions and beliefs impact our daily interactions. As leaders, it is imperative that we better understand how to manage our own internal reality before we are able to invoke or inspire change in those around us.

In this session, you will have the opportunity to step off the urgency treadmill that drives most of us in our day to day work life, and participate in experiential exercises that will assist you in seeing yourself and your emotional responses to situations and people more clearly. Using the Emotional Intelligence four-quadrant model developed by author Daniel Goleman in his groundbreaking book of the same name, we will help you reflect and build upon these insights to assess and modify how you approach issues and people.

You will be provided with a question guide to assist you in the creation of your personal leadership development action plan, which will aid you in the construction of specific goals to improve your personal leadership potential.

All events held at the Ensminger Pavilion in Pullman from noon to 1:30 pm.
